About

Years ago, thanks to a grassroots effort much like our own, Truckee Donner Parks and Recreation (TDRPD) decided to help a volunteer group of local skateboarders build a skatepark.

The Truckee Skatepark was a result of the blood sweat and tears of those boarders, the TDRPD organizers and several businesses who wanted to see the project come to fruition.

The park was a huge success. Today, it's a hub for local riders in the drier months and a destination park for more advanced riders. Unfortunately, it can't always keep up with the demand. Daylight limits park hours and the bowls are advanced.

In the initial building of the park, it was determined that Truckee was home to a board-savvy crowd so the park was designed accordingly. Now, park goers often voice their desire for a progression park or a street section to level out the users and meet the demands of a wider range of riders.

The need for lights in the park has been petitioned on Facebook and skateboarders have rallied around the vision of an indoor skatepark.

In Fall 2010, a handful of determined, community-minded locals, appointed by the vocal skatepark community, got organized to meet the newfound needs of the Truckee Skatepark.

Based on the guidance and logistical planning challenges presented to us by the supportive people over at TDRPD, the collaborative has concluded that the first steps to better support the skatepark community is the expand the existing park.

That's how we've come to our current phase in the skatepark efforts.
